Empowering Equipment

Pumps in pools move water by way of an impeller that is connected to the shaft of a motor, typically powered by a 240-volt circuit. Most are used to circulate water in a filtration system; some power in-pool cleaning devices or push water through auxiliary features around a pool. They are vital for clean, fully-functioning bodies of water.

Controllers are varied in their ways of working with pumps and other pool equipment. At a basic level, a switch like one used for lights can simply turn on a pump or light for an indefinite period. Time clocks can be set to restrict operation of a device to a limited period of time. Automation can control minute details about a piece of equipment, and new control interfaces allow one to operate any aspect of one’s pool from anywhere an internet signal be found.

Heaters mix three sources of energy – electricity, water, and a gas fuel. Most of the time in the North Dallas area, electricity is meant to power the digital interface, the ignition module, and exhaust/induction fans. Some heaters use electrical elements to heat swimming water. Pool owners must use a qualified technician to install these items in order to qualify for the manufacturer’s warranty. One pool owner called Select Pool Services about installing a heater, did not believe our expertise was worth the standard cost, and loudly declared, “It’s just connecting a heater; it’s not rocket science!” Later, he called the manufacturer to have a warranty crew (Select Pool Services was the warranty crew) to come determine why his new heater was not working. It had been wired incorrectly, and the pool owner had to pay for the damages.

Lights all begin with a separate 120-volt circuit, even if the circuit eventually leads to a transformer that knocks down the voltage to 12vac for a low-voltage light fixture. The conduit for these lights must be bonded if metal (red brass) or must have a bonding wire in with the light wire for PVC conduits. Federal energy regulations have severely limited the types of light fixtures that can be sold and installed, leaving only LED fixtures as possibilities. These fixtures are more expensive but do save energy and last longer (theoretically) than halogen and incandescent ones. You may purchase white LED fixtures or color-changing ones that allow single colors or various color programs.

We sell and repair all of these items and many, many more. Whether you want to maximize your energy usage or have been forced to replace a piece of equipment that suddenly has stopped working, you should call 214-755-7665 extension 1 today to speak with the lead technician for Select Pool Services.
